Self-Description of Research and Other Scholarly Activities
My research is mostly focused on the ancient history of China, especially from the prehistoric period to the Western Zhou dynasty. As Wang Guowei said, “Do you know the most majestic view in history?” Ancient history is majestic; it cannot be absent in our study of the past. Change is a constant in history, and studying the ancient past thus becomes the basis for understanding future changes. My interests are thus quite broad, starting from the Neolithic age to the archaeology of the Shang dynasty, the rise of the Chinese civilization, oracle bones, ancient documents, ancient chronology, and myths and fables. I believe these studies can be synthesized and used to rebuild a believable history of the very early China.
